A metal front holds a square lens more rigidly at the corners than a plastic one does, so the Leonard tends to keep its lens seated tightly even after repeated swaps. That rigidity is also why a scratched lens is usually worth replacing on its own here — the frame corners rarely deform enough to need replacing alongside it, even after the lens itself has taken years of wear.
